Season of Creation 2023 - Pope Francis

“Let Justice and Peace Flow” is the theme of this year’s Season of Creation, inspired by the words of the prophet Amos: “Let justice flow on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream” (5:24). The ecumenical phase begins on 1 September with the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and concludes on 4 October with the feast of Saint Francis.

Season of Creation into the future

As Christians we are called to accept the world as a sacrament of communion, as a way of sharing with God and our neighbours on a global scale. It is our humble conviction that the divine and the human meet in the slightest detail in the seamless garments of God’s creation, in the least speck of dust of our planet (LS #9)

Season of Creation - Week 4

During the Season of Creation, our common prayer and action can help us listen for the voices of those who are silenced. In prayer we lament the individuals, communities, species, and ecosystems who are lost, and those whose livelihoods are threatened by habitat loss and climate change. In prayer we centre the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.

Season of Creation - Week 2

During the Season of Creation, our common prayer and action can help us listen for the voices of those who are silenced. In prayer we lament the individuals, communities, species, and ecosystems who are lost, and those whose livelihoods are threatened by habitat loss and climate change. In prayer we centre the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor.

Season of Creation - Week 1

The burning bush is the Symbol for the Season of Creation 2022. Today, the prevalence of unnatural fires are a sign of the devastating effects that climate change has on the most vulnerable of our planet. Creation cries out as forests crackle, animals flee, and people are forced to migrate due to the fires of injustice.

A Prayer for conversion

2021SOC4Web150The Australian Bishops Social Justice Statement, Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor encourages us to LISTEN with an open heart to those who are most affected by the many crises our world is facing. We can begin, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to discern the signs of the times.

During Week 4 of Seasons of Creation we are invited into ongoing conversion, to transform our outlook and actions to be in accord with the loving presence of God.

God is a Trinity of Love

2021SOC2Web150"The three-person God is a Trinity of love. Every creative act and every part of creation emerges from this divine interplay of love." Join us for the Season of Creation during this month of September as we take time to pray and listen to Creation, alive and vibrant around us, as we pay attention to God’s beautiful Creation and the need for us to renew and restore the health of our planet.

We will continue to unpack the Australian Bishops Social Justice Statement over these weeks to inspire us to work towards some form of extra action that each of us can take.

Week 4 Season of Creation

2020SOCweeksWeb150In this Season of Creation, what actions are we taking to respond to God’s call to integral ecological conversion? If we humbly recognise areas where we need to change, and desire that change to happen, we can be sure that the grace of God will never be lacking. An integral ecological conversion can be embraced in three main areas: environmental dimensions; economic dimensions and social dimensions.

Week 3 Season of Creation

2020SOCweeksWeb150Papua New Guinea occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea as well as numerous offshore islands. With a land area of 462,840 square kilometres and a population of over 8.1 million, Papua New Guinea is the largest country in the Pacific region both by geography and population. It has an abundance of natural resources, with mineral deposits like copper, gold and oil accounting for nearly two-thirds of Papua New Guinea’s export revenues. Still, 85 per cent of the population relies on subsistence agriculture. The natural environment throughout PNG is extremely fragile and highly vulnerable to both natural and human impacts. pdf Read this week's reflection. (1.28 MB)

Week 2 Season of Creation

2020SOCweeksWeb150Have you ever stood on an unspoiled beach wondering at a spectacular sunrise and felt that your God was part of you and the creation? At a time of loss or tragedy have you sought the peace of solitude, a quiet place? Does the flight of a bird lift your spirit “on eagles wings”? We are aware of what Patriarch Bartholomew calls sin (Laudato si ) as the human species overfishes the oceans and pollutes them with river of plastics. As the lungs of the earth, the great forests of the Amazon and Congo basins are clear-felled or burnt.

Join the Season of Creation

2020SOCWeb150Join the 2020 Season of Creation - a time for Christians to come together, take action, and show the world what love for creation looks like. The Season of Creation, 1 September – 4 October, is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through repenting, repairing, and rejoicing together. This year, amid crises that have shaken our world, we’re awakened to the urgent need to heal our relationships with creation and each other. “This is the season for letting our prayer be inspired anew by closeness to nature  . . . to reflect on our lifestyles . . . for undertaking prophetic actions . . . directing the planet towards life, not death.” Pope Francis Visit the website  |  Watch the video
