On the international day for Grandparents and the Elderly, Pope Francis said that grandparents and the young grow together in a fruitful exchange.

Today, Carmelites celebrate the memory of Blessed John Soreth.

Jesus uses the expression, 'The kingdom of heaven' frequently in his teaching. The Kingdom is not heaven, it is the life and heart of God.

In the presence of a large crowd of Carmelites, parishioners, family and friends, Br Anacleto made his Solemn Profession of Vows (life-long commitment) as a Carmelite on 16 July.

Fr Míceál O'Neill, Prior General of the Carmelites, reflects on the meaning of the Solemnity of Our Lady of Mount Carmel today.

'I’ve never seen such horrific and terrible damage as these torrential rains have created throughout the Zumalai region in Timor-Leste. The people here are now afraid of further landslides as they deal with the devastating damage to their homes, roads, and communities.'

We live in the Kingdom when we live according to the mind and heart of God. The Kingdom, or reign of God, breaks into human reality when human beings live, breathe and act out of the life of God; when the heart of God becomes ours; when we allow God to speak and act in and through us.

Every person dreams of a life filled with opportunities, hope and the possibility of a new beginning.

The Gospel today is a joyful, ecstatic outburst of feeling by Jesus.

You are warmly invited to join us as Br Anacleto makes his Solemn Profession of Vows on Sunday 16 July at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Middle Park (Vic).

Carmelite Rule

A rule of life was given to the early Carmelites by St Albert Avogadro, Patriach of Jerusalem between the years 1206 - 1214. It was finally approved by Pope Innocent in 1247 and later underwent mitigations which were not in the original text.

The Carmelite Rule states that is basic for a Carmelite to "live a life of allegiance to Jesus Christ - how, pure in heart and stout in conscience, he must be unswerving in the service of his Master" [no.2].
