Feast of Body & Blood of Christ

community01 350Our feast today also celebrates Christ’s presence with us in the community of the Church. The Eucharist is our sacrament of communion, not only with Christ and God, but also with all those called into the Christian community. Our communion binds us to one another in a sacred union of mind and heart with Jesus. It also binds us to be of service, to ‘feed’ the various hungers found in human life – hunger for food, shelter, love, forgiveness, respect, dignity, hope, comfort….

Having been nourished with this Sacred Food we are called to become the Eucharist which feeds one another. The Eucharist is an action not a thing. As St Augustine said, “May we become what we receive.”
