Canonisation of St Elizabeth of the Trinity

2016ETCWeb200Pope Francis has today made Carmelite, Elizabeth of the Trinity, a saint during a special ceremony held at St Peter's, Rome. St Elizabeth of the Trinity was born on 18 July 1880. As a young child she earned a reputation as an incessant chatterbox and vivacious crawler. She was strong-willed and determined. As she grew up she became known for her generous and loveable nature. She was an excellent musician whose concerts won critical acclaim. At the same time her awareness of God began to grow. Much like St Therese of Lisieux, Elizabeth's way was one of simple conversation with God and a deep, abiding awareness of God's presence within. Read the full story of St Elizabeth of the Trinity.

Taking the theme of the meeting, "More by our life than by our words - Missionaries of God's Tenderness and Love" the message reflects on those broken and harmed by adverse situations, war, poverty, exploitation and broken relationships and how the Carmelite charism challenges us to be missionaries of God's tenderness and love.

Historic Lay Carmelite Assembly

2016LCAWeb200The 2016 Lay Carmelite Assembly at Jamberoo Abbey NSW was an historic event.

For the first time, the Assembly elected 2 members of the Lay Carmelite Council. Formerly, these representatives were appointed by the Friars’ Provincial Council. So the 2016 Assembly saw the Lay Carmelites of Australia – and New Zealand - achieve a new degree of autonomy.
Never before has there been a New Zealand presence on the governing body.
