St Thérèse - the journey continues

Therese2The tour of the relics of St Thérèse of Lisieux and her parents may have been suspended during the coronavirus crisis but don't miss this opportunity to learn more about this fascinating woman. Bernadette Micallef, from The Carmelite Centre, has produced two online resources.

The first deals with her pdf family background and early life as a Carmelite (1.45 MB) . The second presentation explores pdf the message of Thérèse known as her (470 KB) pdf  little way (470 KB) , a way that is not about DOING little things but rather a way of BEING little in relationship with God. Images, for the Story of a Soul, that Thérèse used to express this way of being in relationship with God and examples of her lived experience drawing especially on the Memoirs of her sister Céline.

Carmelite Rule

A rule of life was given to the early Carmelites by St Albert Avogadro, Patriach of Jerusalem between the years 1206 - 1214. It was finally approved by Pope Innocent in 1247 and later underwent mitigations which were not in the original text.

The Carmelite Rule states that is basic for a Carmelite to "live a life of allegiance to Jesus Christ - how, pure in heart and stout in conscience, he must be unswerving in the service of his Master" [no.2].
