80th Anniversary of Brandsma's Martyrdom

TBPrisonerWeb450X61580 years ago, on 26 July 1942, St Titus Brandsma was fatally injected with carbolic acid in the hospital of Dachau Concentration Camp. The hospital was notorious for medical experiments carried out on inmates.

Throughout his life Titus Brandsma remained deeply in touch with God and deeply in touch with the plight of his fellow human beings. He stood up for what he believed in, he fought racial discrimination and religious persecution, he urged people to goodness, he championed human rights, he held firm to his faith in God and became God’s love in action for those around him.

More about Titus Brandsma

Prayer

God of peace and justice,
you open our hearts to love
and to the joy of the Gospel
even in the midst of countless forms of violence
that take away the dignity of our brothers and sisters.

Fill us with your grace,
so that like Saint Titus Brandsma,
we may in tenderness see beyond the horrors of inhumanity
and contemplate your glory that shines forth through the martyrs of every age,
and so become your authentic witnesses in the world of today.
Amen.
