New house at Guisarudo

For the past several months the Carmelites have been celebrating Mass and the Sacraments for the people in Guisarudo, Ermera, at the request of Cardinal Virgílio Do Carmo Da Silva, Archbishop of Dili.  The main church in Guisarudo has some 16 chapels located in the surrounding villages.

On 22 December 2023 Fr Aniçeto Maia Da Costa blessed a new priest’s residence built by the people of Guisarudo. The simple residence has 2 bedrooms and a dining room and complements an existing house which also has 2 bedrooms.

The Carmelites will continue to celebrate Mass and the Sacraments at Guisarudo throughout 2024.

Carmelite Rule

A rule of life was given to the early Carmelites by St Albert Avogadro, Patriach of Jerusalem between the years 1206 - 1214. It was finally approved by Pope Innocent in 1247 and later underwent mitigations which were not in the original text.

The Carmelite Rule states that is basic for a Carmelite to "live a life of allegiance to Jesus Christ - how, pure in heart and stout in conscience, he must be unswerving in the service of his Master" [no.2].
