Celebrating Timor-Leste Restoration Day

Fr Martinho Da Costa (PP Coorparoo QLD) recently celebrated a Thanksgiving Mass for 300 Timorese seasonal workers at Caboolture (QLD). The mass, to mark the 23rd anniversary of the restoration of independence for Timor-Leste following nearly a decade of Indonesian occupation, was held at the Queensland Berries farm which employs about 700 seasonal workers, many from Timor-Leste.

Drawing on the Gospel for the Mass, Fr Martinho talked about Jesus’ command to ‘love one another just as I have loved you’. “This is Jesus’ message for us today: to share love with one another. This is the same message of those have given their lives in the long struggle for independence. So, part of our contribution is to carry and share that love among us. By doing this we will bear the fruit of peace, justice and harmony,” Fr Martinho said.

Rádio e Televisão de Timor-Leste featured coverage of the mass on its news bulletins. You can watch the coverage below.
