General Chapter goes back to school

Fr Paul Cahill (delegate from our Province to the General Chapter) reports: A highlight of the Chapter occurred late last Sunday afternoon/evening when we went to the highly regarded Carmelite Coeducational Secondary College, St Albert’s, in Malang. There we celebrated Mass with other Carmelites – men, women and lay – and other collaborators of the Carmelites in Malang. The singing was led by a mixed choir of over 60 students from St Albert’s College … and it was magnificent. The Mass was followed by a dinner, during which we were treated to a videoed and dramatic history of the Carmelites in Indonesia, covering the 100 years of their presence there.  This included a number of traditional dances, presented by the students of St Albert’s College, of the various islands of Indonesia in which the Carmelites have ministered. It was an extraordinary production and only increased our wonder at the incredible time, effort and skill that the Indonesian province has put into ensuring the Chapter has been a memorable experience for all of us privileged to be part of it.
